"I encourage you to stop thinking of training individual responses
as isolated training experiences and start thinking that we are not just
'building behaviour XYZ' we are establishing, in the mind of the dog,
what life is like while working with you."
From "Non-Reward Markers: Reducing the Use" by Susan Garret |
"I think the only leadership that's important for behavior mod
is the kind that allows the dog to trust the handler."

"Now the dogs have faith that when they speak, she will listen. 'This makes training,
as well as living with the dogs, easier because the dogs no longer think or behave
as if they need to shout at me to have me hear them.'"

all their warning signals go unheeded."

Dogs need to chew. Save your shoes, carpet, table legs...and get these instead. Unlike rawhide which can break off in pieces and cause serious intestinal blockage, bullysticks wear down slowly and clean the teeth at the same time too. Buy them in bulk online and save a little money. Highly recommended. |

This is just about the best toy ever invented for dogs. Stuff the kong with your dog's meal, peanut butter, cream cheese, or freeze it with chicken broth--what you get is a doggie pacifier. Dogs who are busy with kongs are not going to be: barking, jumping on the guests, or destroying your house. Highly recommended. |
